Pitney Bowes Moves European Headquarters
Customer communications solutions experts, Pitney Bowes, opened its new Global Mailing Solutions European headquarters in Hatfield Business Park, marking the end of an era for the head office’s old location in Harlow, where the company was based since 1963.
The move was confirmed in May 2012 after it was agreed that Hatfield was the best location for the natural progression of the company. However, 200 jobs will remain in Harlow, on another newly acquired site. This, coupled with an investment in technology to facilitate an agile workplace, which allows employees to work remotely, will ensure a smooth transition to the company’s new headquarters.
Ian Davidson, European president of GMS and Councillor Helen Bromley, mayor of Welwyn Hatfield cut a ribbon and declared the site open, in a move that is not only hoped to improve cohesiveness between departments but also reflect Pitney Bowes’s ability to respond and adapt to the demands of the 21st Century. As a communications company it is important to be forward thinking and technology astute. Hatfield provides the right environment for Pitney Bowes to do just that.
Davidson said of the move: “Over the course of nearly 50 years, Pitney Bowes has evolved from primarily a mailing company to a customer communications solutions provider. The transition has brought about the need for new premises, moving the headquarters from what was essentially an engineering based site, to a location more in line with the solutions and services we now offer. This change in location is designed to support agile working and facilitate the advancing needs of Pitney Bowes’ employees.
“The move is exciting for us. It will enable us to deliver the best possible service to our customers, and we’re looking forward to seeing the local trade boost that bringing 450 of our employees to the area will bring.”
Councillor Helen Bromley, Mayor of Welwyn Hatfield said: “On behalf of the borough, I’m delighted to welcome Pitney Bowes Global Mailing Solutions to Hatfield. The fact that such a company has chosen to base its European headquarters here says a great deal for the vibrancy of our business community.”
