A Winning Rivalry
Friendly competitors share top honor
By Janet R. Gross
Being named the best in your field is an honor that many strive to achieve throughout their careers. Those chosen have made positive contributions to their industry, were crucial in their companies' growth and have earned the respect of their peers.
The recipients of the Business Forms, Labels & Systems Gerald Bostwick Manufacturer of the Year Award are no exceptions to these criteria.
Each year, a panel selects someone that they feel best typifies their manufacturing partner--someone who has demonstrated his or her commitment to the success of the industry through a series of contributions as an individual as well as through his or her company. This year's distributor panel however, found two such individuals that fit the mold.
Honorees David Burr of Datagraphic, Roswell, Ga., and Casey Campbell of Continuous Forms and Checks (CFC), Peachtree City, Ga., were both astounded by the news.
"I'm very surprised, flattered. I didn't have a clue I was even [being] considered," said Campbell.
"It's fantastic. I'm absolutely thrilled," said Burr. "I know what this honor means and I'm very proud to be named."
The two share more than astonishment at their naming. Their companies are both aggressive short-run producers in the Atlanta suburbs that have made major acquisitions and product expansions. They also have similar friendly, down-to-earth personalities and sharp marketing acumen. They both went to Datagraphic right out of college and even worked together there for a while.
Campbell had two stints at Datagraphic, signing Burr on shortly before he left the first time, then returning three years later as vice president of sales and marketing, the title Burr has held now for eight years.
"We played soccer together at Datagraphic," Campbell reminisced. "I know them all real well over there and consider them good friends."
Burr, whose relationship with Campbell goes back to his college days, said, "I have the utmost respect for Casey. He's a top-notch professional."
