Holographic labels are like fine chinaboth are used primarily for special occasions. While such a product may not do much to boost sales volume, it is still a good item to have in your repertoire.
"Once in a while we'll get a customer who wants to run a special promotion without much emphasis on cost," said Michael O'Hare, president of Northeast Quality Products, Newburyport, Mass. He has seen some interest in the product from manufacturers of food, health and beauty and other consumer products.
"No matter what you do with it, the material is very eye catching," said Nancy Phillips, president of Pro Forms, Visalia, Calif. She noted that the only drawback with this product is cost. "It's a fairly high-value label because it can be quite expensive." To help keep costs down for its customers, Pro Forms also offers a generic holograms.
O'Hare believes the future of holographic labels looks bright. "We've been seeing an increase in interest as customers look for something new and exciting," he said. "I definitely think sales will dramatically pick up for this product soon."
The other main function of a holographic label is security. Pro Forms offers an array of holographic security labels in its TamperSafe line. "They are attractive as security features because they have a longer life span than other security labels," said Phillips. "It's a technology that's not been defeated."
Phillips said the TamperSafe product is very popular for documents such as certificates of authenticity, vital record documents, gift certificates and any other document that might need source verification.
Pro Forms' holographic security labels are unique because they can be ordered for heat-applied as well as adhesive applications. "Sometimes other companies will come to us because they only offer the adhesive-applied labels," said Phillips. "The problem with those is they can be peeled off if you heat them up."
