There is nothing more frustrating than trying to remove a label only to have a few flimsy specks of the top ply come off, leaving behind most of the label with a few fuzzy-looking adhesive patches showing through. Further attempts at removal only result in broken fingernails and gouges in the surface bearing the now unsightly label remnants.
Well, Stow, Ohio based MACtac Printing Products has developed a dissolvable label stock for producing labels that completely dissolve in water—face, adhesive and all. The dissolvable label serves a variety of applications, particularly in the areas of food service and health care, where label use is often mandatory but removal may be difficult or forgotten. For instance, labeled containers can be put directly into dishwashers and boiling water without the possibility of labels clogging drains or contaminating food.
“Adding water dissolvable label stock to our product mix helps us address the specific issue of label removal, which has been a problem for some of our customers,” said Jim Kisthardt, product manager. “We offer quality, easy-to-use, innovative products, and provide essential support throughout the entire labeling process.”
The product—item number WDP3201—is manufactured using dissolvable, uncoated 40 lb. face stock, MACtac’s new MP332 acrylic emulsion adhesive and a 2.5 mil (40 lb.) super calendared kraft liner.
MACtac is a leading global supplier of pressure-sensitive adhesives, and is a subsidiary of the Bemis Company, the largest flexible packaging supplier in North America.
