Undoubtedly, the healthcare market is responsible for improving the quality of life for many industry professionals. There is simply no end to the demand for new solutions and services resulting from advances in patient care and workflows.
For instance, new printing processes are being explored to satisfy prescription labeling applications, leading converters to discover new products compatible with these technologies. This month’s mystery product is one of the fruits of their labor.
Check out the following clues to guess what the product is:
• It offers outstanding environmental resistance.
• It helps to reduce costs and enhance image density.
• It’s good for what ails direct thermal printing processes.
mystery product revealed
MACScript from Stow, Ohio-based MACtac Printing Products, is a converter-friendly direct thermal substrate for prescription labeling.
The product’s advanced thermal chemistry design makes it resistant to harmful environmental factors. It virtually eliminates the need for a press-applied UV overcoat, which can add cost, slow the printing process, inhibit full-image density and cause premature print head wear.
Typically, prescription bottles are stored in bathrooms and kitchens, and are handled quite frequently. Excessive moisture and exposure to UV rays can cause inks on labels to fade—an added concern when prescription labels outline how patients are to take the medications.
MACScript was designed to withstand extreme exposure to water, sunlight and heat, as well as certain common chemicals found in hand sanitizers and lotions, making it the most durable prescription label currently available.
“Image fade on a label can cause serious problems, especially in the prescription industry,” said Kathy Magyar, product manager. “As a recognized leader in the direct thermal prescription labeling market, MACtac understands pharmacy label requirements and created MACScript to address a number of industry concerns with both the converter and end-user in mind.”
Compatible with high-speed and low-voltage direct thermal printers, MACScript has high image density and medium- to high-thermal sensitivity. It features MACtac’s ST-95 acrylic adhesive, which allows for short-term repositionability and excellent mandrel hold, while staying glove-friendly. MACScript also offers exceptional service temperature abilities, ranging from negative 75 degrees to 200 degrees.
MACtac is a leading global supplier of pressure-sensitive adhesives. The company is a subsidiary of the Bemis Company—the largest flexible packaging supplier in North America.
