PIA Announces Book About Adding Value to Print
Printing Industries of America announced that Adding Value to Print: A Survey of Novel Products, Finishing Techniques, and Materials Options, by Manfred Breede, is May's Book of the Month.
Adding Value to Print explores ways to enhance the unique characteristics of print in ways that are appealing to consumers and readers and which are not reproducible in other media forms.
Because of the rate of change in graphic communications technology, print has been challenged as the preeminent mass communication medium. Adding Value to Print explores new avenues, particularly as they relate to:
- Binding and finishing techniques and applications
- The synergy of print and electronics
- The many uses of various printing inks
- The effectiveness and strategies related to proper substrate choice
- Novel products and enabling technologies
In Adding Value to Print, author Manfred Breede explains that printers should enhance the value of print with processes and materials in order to produce printed pieces that attract attention and bring about the pride of ownership that only material things can induce. Breede says, "Printers should not define themselves by the printing process they employ, as this tends to limit opportunities to expand into new markets. Many printers have the enterprising spirit and wherewithal to move into non-traditional areas of communication."
