Platinum Award - Commercial/Promotional Printing Sweet Scent of
Nestled in a pristine valley cut by the Boise River is Eagle, Idaho. In this idyllic setting is the new home to Camille Beckman, a wholesale merchant of fragrant beauty products. The beautiful Tudor-style facility is largely a result of years of careful and deliberate planning by Susan Roghani, owner of Camille Beckman. But it's not her new building that won a platinum award—it's her new catalog.
Needless to say, Roghani didn't want just any catalog. She wanted it to be pleasing to the eye with every facet serving a dual purpose. The fact is, Roghani has used the same product information guide for a few years and it was time for a change.
Rather than offering clients an updated catalog and separate order forms, Roghani wanted to completely redesign the format and provide a tool that would also market her products. "I wanted the catalog to be an in-teresting piece that would give the client something fun to think about each month," she said.
To find the team that could give her what she wanted, Roghani called upon Jim Dunn, owner, IBF Group, Boise, Idaho. Dunn took the project to designer Tressa McLaughlin and asked her if she and her graphics team were up for the challenge.
The new catalog would combine the order forms with the product information guide and a calendar.
"[Roghani] wanted to show customers marketing ideas and merchandise that would be appropriate to order the following month," said McLaughlin.
This would alert customers to upcoming sales, encourage them to order for the next month and offer them helpful display and fragrance tips.
IBF had produced the Camille Beckman order forms in the past, so it was simply a matter of updating them. For the catalog, new photographs were taken and art was used from the previous catalog. McLaughlin and her team then typeset the entire catalog and worked with Roghani on rearranging the lines. "We created quite a few dummies and [Roghani] worked side by side with us to speed up the proofing process," said McLaughlin.
Proving to be a success, McLaughlin said that the product resulted in many accolades, since customers had just what they needed right at their fingertips.
