Chicago-based RR Donnelley & Sons Company announced that Daniel L. Knotts has been named chief operating officer, succeeding John R. Paloian who is retiring after more than 25 years in the industry and having served for more than five years as the company's COO.

Knotts most recently served as the company's group president, with responsibility for global sales, operations, information technology, logistics, financial services, business process outsourcing operations, strategic sourcing and environmental, health and safety.
