Ward/Kraft Offers FDA-Approved, Red Cross-Compliant Blood Collection Labeling
Ward/Kraft, Ft. Scott, Kan., expanded its health care products to include labels critical in the blood collection process. The primary benefit of the new labels is their ability to withstand the handling requirements mandated by the FDA for the collection and distribution of blood donations stored in plastic bags. Distributors are now equipped with a solution for hospitals, pharmacies, medical labs, clinics, chain-of-custody and other health care related accounts who must label plastic bags containing blood and other bodily fluids.
The critical components required for the labels to meet FDA and Red Cross requirements include specific adhesive, face stock and print coatings. Blood bag labels from Ward/Kraft meet the FDA 21 CFR 175 labeling requirements for direct contact with blood-bags. These labels will attach securely to the plastic bag with glove friendly adhesive. Offered in single and piggyback constructions, the Ward/Kraft labels feature single ply polyolefin face stock with thermal transfer coating and permanent adhesive. The labels are designed to adhere securely to plastic bags and provide excellent chemical and moisture resistance. The minimum application temperature is +40 degrees Fahrenheit, and the service range is -4 to +300 degrees Fahrenheit. The additional UV coating ensures minimal fade and good light resistance.
“Health care requirements are strict and the penalties for non-compliance can be steep”, said Lance Triplett, general manager, label division. “We strive to be a great partner for our distributors by making sure that our label applications, like blood bag labels, meet or exceed any known requirements. Distributors can order blood bag labels from Ward/Kraft with the utmost confidence that they conform to all regulations set forth by The American Red Cross and the FDA.”
The Ward/Kraft label division has a 30 plus year reputation for providing innovative solutions to meet the unique needs of a wide variety of custom and stock labeling applications.
