As the demand for environmental integrity grows, many in the industry are turning over a new leaf when it comes to items they’re adding to their product lines. This month’s mystery product showcases a new, truly unique, high-performing, eco-friendly substrate that can help close sales with end-customers interested in advancing green initiatives.
No forests have been harmed in the manufacturing of the product, and it provides a smooth surface for exceptional color saturation and image resolution. Check out the following clues to guess what the item is:
• It is made entirely from inorganic mineral powders derived from stone, including limestone and calcium carbonate.
• It is naturally resistant to scuffing, water, grease and oily substances, making it ideal for outdoor applications.
• It is an energy-efficient, acid-free paper that does not perpetuate pulp fiction.
mystery product revealed
Headquartered in Chicago, Ill., GPA Specialty Substrate Solutions recently launched Ultra Green—a 100 percent tree-free, eco-friendly, high opacity paper that combines the printability and converting characteristics of traditional paper with the durability of plastic.
But unlike traditional paper, Ultra Green is manufactured without the use of trees, water or toxic agents, including bleaching chemicals. And, since there is no grain, the product has a super-smooth surface promoting high-color saturation and resolution.
Ultra Green uses significantly lower amounts of ink compared with traditional pulp papers, and is dimensionally stable regardless of changes in extreme temperatures and humidity. The product doesn’t stretch and offers anti-static qualities, making it easy to print and finish through a variety of processes.
In addition, Ultra Green is naturally resistant to scuffing, water, grease and oily substances, offering an effective solution for outdoor applications. Its distinctive characteristics also make Ultra Green resistant to ultra violet rays, preventing yellowing and brittleness caused by sun exposure. The strong, durable substrate is made entirely from inorganic mineral powders derived from stone—including limestone and calcium carbonate—with a trace amount of non-toxic resin and high-density polyethylene as a bonding agent. It offers antimicrobial protection, conforms to FDA standards for food contact and is priced 30 percent to 40 percent lower than leading synthetic paper and film.
