Xerox Corp. is closing part of a call center operation in North Carolina that employs roughly 500. According to the Connecticut-based printing and business services giant, the affected Cary, N.C., call center jobs will be eliminated effective Nov. 14, but the company plans to place more than half those workers within other Xerox operations there.

Xerox said separation packages will be provided to those who qualify. Xerox is one of the Rochester area’s largest employers with roughly 6,300 workers locally.

Curtis Packaging, a Connecticut-based sustainable manufacturer of paperboard folding cartons, was cited in the recently released Green to Gold Business Playbook by Daniel C. Esty and P. J. Simmons. Esty and Simmons highlight Curtis as an example for companies striving to create a winning environmental strategy and attain a measurable return on investment.

Promo Marketing, a sister publication of Print Professional, has compiled a new Top 50 Suppliers ranking. Despite stricter regulations on the safety and sales of promotional products, 2010 and the first half of 2011 have shown a sales resurgence in the industry. The returning fiscal strength of the industry is evident from the list, which is based on revenue numbers from 2010. Overall, the top 50 suppliers raked in more than $500 million more than they did in 2009. These companies have increased their margins, upped the interest in their products and committed themselves to making it through the financial crises stronger than before, and they are being rewarded for it.

EPG (Essex Products Group), the Connecticut-based manufacturer of KeyColor ink and color measurement controls and presetting and scanner interface systems, announced Peter Baldwin is now the company's northeastern United States representative.

From Sept. 22 to Sept. 28,  the U.S. Government Printing Office (GPO) awarded 144 one-time print jobs to 33 print supplier clients of Government Print Management.
