Finlay Printing in Bloomfield is closing after more than 135 years in operation, according to employees who say they were told of the news late last week.

Barry E. D'Esopo, who worked 14 years as a project manager for Finlay, said in an email to The Courant: "The proud and dedicated people who caused those press cylinders to turn will no longer labor under the red, yellow and blue flag of the company. The whirr of the folders and stitchers has been silenced and the beep-beep-beep of the trucks backing into the docks has ceased."

Mark Andy has announced the death of Michael Richardson, one of the original stalwarts of the label industry in the United Kingdom and throughout Europe. Richardson was a visionary to the industry, and instrumental in introducing and building flexo technology into the prominent market position it has today. Michael founded Mark Andy UK in 1993, and was the driving force behind establishing its leading market position. He retired in 2002.

PaperWorks Industries, Inc. announced that Manchester Industries, a major North American converting company, has been acquired by Sun Capital Partners. Manchester ultimately will be merged into PaperWorks, itself an affiliate of Sun Capital Partners.
