We made it. 2010 has finally arrived and in the immortal status update words of a dear friend of mine on Facebook, it is time to “throw the first shovel of dirt into the grave that will bury 2009.” It has been a tough one to say the least, with many losses professional and personal for us all.
My mom always told me that I was optimistic to a fault, but thank goodness it was an infectious optimism that would bring people around and make them find the silver lining too. I think you will find the new year’s first edition of Print Professional, one with glimmers of hope and optimism throughout. If the digital print folks have anything to say about what is going to happen in the print industry in the coming years, then the sky is the limit. There is a “have no fear” and “embrace the change” attitude that I believe the industry needs.
And if that doesn’t get your print industry optimism juices flowing then I am certain our “Rising Stars” feature, showcasing just a few of the industry’s best talent under 40, will. These fresh faces are filled with the enthusiasm and excitement over new techniques and technology that are becoming the backbone of not just surviving in the print industry, but excelling in the print industry. But what struck me in their interviews was a true respect and gratitude for the past. We are lucky to work in such an industry that remembers where it has come from and forges ahead to the future.
Should old acquaintance be forgot,
and never brought to mind?
Should old acquaintance be forgot,
and auld lang syne?
For auld lang syne, my dear,
for auld lang syne,
we’ll take a cup of kindness yet,
for auld lang syne.
