Question: I am interviewing a bookkeeper who is familiar with QuickBooks. Is that all I need to know?
Answer: No! Setting aside the issues of the complexity of a bookkeeper's former experience, which is the subject of another blog, you need to know more about which QuickBooks this person has used in the past.
QuickBooks has created its various products on different platforms. QuickBooks Online and QuickBooks MAC are totally different software, and also are different from the desktop products QuickBooks Pro, Premier and Enterprise.
As ad specialty distributors, look for someone with QuickBooks Desktop experience, preferably QuickBooks Premier or Enterprise.
You need to be specific about this, because you could end up with someone who knows nothing at all about your software. The catch phrase of "knowing QuickBooks" is far too vague.
Please email accounting questions you would like considered for the column to HGatter@AccountingSupportLLC.com with the subject line of "Ask the Accountant."
