Some Racing Stripes for that Tortoise Please
“A lot of people run a race to see who is fastest. I run to see who has the most guts.”
Something quite incredible has happened within our industry over the course of the past year. While turmoil has been the standard faire in the financial sector and the bubble keeps bursting in the real estate market over and over and over again, the printed products industry has grown, surpassing the $3 billion mark this year. And while many poke fun at forms manufacturers and distributors, saying that it is fuddy-duddy, boring or perhaps somehow less glamorous than other markets, there is certainly something to be said about continual slow and steady growth.
Yes, we should all keep our eyes open for creative new opportunities. Yes, flexibility in an ever-changing marketplace is imperative. But, this year’s top manufacturer issue showcases the adaptability and tenacity of an industry whose strength is all too often discounted or overlooked.
If we were to make a modern day business adaptation of the old Aesop fable, “The Tortoise and the Hare,” surely printed products manufacturers and distributors would be classified as tortoises and would wear that cap proudly while crossing the finish line first. However, there would be one addition to the story—some very hip racing stripes.
Congratulations on a good year!
