Flesh Co Runs 5S Kaizen Event
Flesh Co has begun phase one of a three-phase 5S program involving its offsite warehouse in Parsons, Kan.
The building was originally the short-run print division of Flesh Co. Today, the location serves as warehousing for customer stock, inventory, parts and special projects. Though all of the primary production is in the main plant, all facilities within the company are subject to 5S standards. The initial phase focuses on the shipping office and print center. The following phases will cover the entryway, warehouse and maintenance inventories.
5S refers to a five-step process for continual improvement involving: Sort, Set in order, Shine, Standardize and Sustain. A team consists of volunteers from all departments. All volunteers are relieved of their current positions for the duration of the Kaizen event.
At the same time, a second team was tasked to streamline the company’s non-conformance process. Their goals were to reduce the number of documents used, implement changes to corrective action documentation and present a training plan for company-wide rollout to the steering team.
