Milwaukee-based Institute for Graphics and Imaging (IGI) will hold a two-day training course covering all aspects of papermaking from the pulping of wood through paper manufacturing. The course will take place March 31 and April 1, at the IGI Southeast Wisconsin facility in Pewaukee. The course leader will be David Hollenberg, a noted paper scientist and inventor or co-inventor of 26 U.S. patents in the papermaking field.
Participants in this course will learn the basics of papermaking and converting, and how paper differences influence printing and graphics. They will learn to measure paper characteristics and how to specify paper for a variety of end uses. The course will provide a comprehensive understanding of paper science, and is appropriate for all printing industry personnel as well as newcomers to the pulp and paper industry.
While a basic understanding of mathematics and science would be helpful, it is not essential for this course. An extensive list of references for pulp and paper technology will be included as part of the course materials.
