Top 50 Supplier PDF Print Communications, Signal Hill, Calif., has entered into an agreement to acquire certain assets of Phoenix-based Orion Press. The closing of the transaction is expected to take place on Feb. 28.
“We are delighted to announce this acquisition as an expansion of our business in the Southwest and, more specifically, Phoenix, which is the fifth largest city in the U.S.,” said Kevin Mullaney, president of PDF Print Communications. “Like us, Orion Press has been a local competitor selling to the trade, but there was very little overlap between our customer base and theirs. Orion has some equipment that will both complement and enhance what we already have in Phoenix.”
"My sister Lisa and I are pleased that Orion Press will be joining the PDF Print Communications family of companies,” said Cressa Nelson, president of Orion Press. “We have a great deal of respect for Kevin Mullaney and his team, and I know they will build on long-standing relationships with our distributors and printers. The acquisition will continue to benefit our customer base with reliability, quality, prompt service and innovative solutions, and bring many additional product capabilities and plant locations that PDF Print [Communications] has to our existing distributors.”
This is the fifth acquisition in the last three years for PDF Print Communications, and will put sales around the $25M mark for calendar year 2019. While some of Orion Press’ equipment will be integrated into the existing Team Print Media facility in Phoenix, the Orion Press name will be the surviving trade name going forward. This is in addition to PDF’s other plant location in Phoenix, which trades under the name Speedflo. Lisa McNurlin, who was the vice president at Orion Press, will have a greatly expanded role as general manager of all PDF Print Communications’ operations in Phoenix.
Jim Anderson, founder of Scottsdale, Arizona-based Corporate Development Associates, represented Orion Press in the sale.
