Headquartered in Milwaukee, Western States Envelope & Label has added a new F.L. Smithe Servo Rotomatic with an ESP (Enhanced Servo Press) unit for inline four-color process flexo printing. The press features precise video registration and inspection, as well as high-speed inline folding.
“A roll goes on one end, and the finished product comes off the other end, having been printed in four-color process, die cut and folded all inline,” explained Steve Brocker, vice president of sales and marketing. “The press produces 1,000 envelopes per minute, and has reduced turnaround by approximately a week and a half for this type of high-end production.” The technology particularly benefits the direct mail industry by enabling rapid responses to interested consumers, and producing attention-grabbing envelopes.
The press not only runs at much higher speeds, it costs less, resulting in significant distributor savings. And, it prints with a 150-line screen for superior color quality. “In this case, you can honestly look the customer in the eye and say it is comparable to litho quality,” said Brocker. “We have truly cracked the code with our enhanced flexo technology. This is a very big deal because of the faster-to-market issue, and the quantum leap in flexo quality.”
The minimum order requirement is 250,000 for standard-size envelopes, and 400,000 for non-standard sizes.
