Never a Dull Moment
July 1, 2005

Industry upheaval continues. This spring, we learned that Woodbury Business Forms and Caribbean Business Forms were acquired by Wise Business Forms. Then, we had the sudden news that the Vallis division of MLC Holdings ceased operations. Now, we find that Printegra has acquired National Imprint Corporation. Wise Business Forms gains access to a wider range of customers and broadens

Cut-Sheet Growth Branches Into Specialized Products
February 1, 2005

Beyond the obvious commodity products exists a wealth of profit-boosting solutions. Offsetting not only the decline in traditional products, but also the ups and downs of the economy, cut-sheets are a reliable growth product, say manufacturers. Over the past three years, as forms sales overall have slumped and then posted a modest recovery, cut-sheet sales volume has been "flat or slightly up," according to Jim Hill of Carolina Cut Sheets, Huntington, W.Va. The producer has manufactured only cut-sheets since 1982. At Printegra, there has been steady cut-sheet growth attributed to new business and the ongoing decline of continuous products, according to Bill Reid, director

Educate customers about value-added features for profit-boosting results. One product that distributors know will be in constant de-mand from customers is checks. Although there may be fluctuations in the type of check products (continuous vs. laser, for instance), the product itself is still a necessity, say manufacturers. "Checks are growing every year," said Sandy Horner, president of Diversiform Software Compatible Checks, Alexandria, Va. Despite the economy's ups and downs, businesses still need to pay employees and suppliers, she said. "The dollar amount on the checks might change, but they still need the checks." Product niches within the category reflect customers' desire for

Product Combinations Yield Profitable Results
February 1, 2004

Form/label combinations benefit distributors, as well as their customers. Forms and labels are a natural combination to win distributors greater profits and reap savings for their customers. "There's not an industry that can't use form/label combinations in some way," said Ed Brandt, owner of Brandt Affixing, Carrollton, Texas. Brandt, which offers both blown-on (piggyback) and integrated label constructions, has seen "nice, steady growth" in form/label combinations, he said.
