Question: I’ve heard rumors that QuickBooks Desktop is going away. Is that true?
Answer: I’ve heard those rumors for years, but QuickBooks Desktop (Pro, Premier and Enterprise) is improved upon year-over-year, and appears to be here to stay. I recently attended a webinar by Joe Woodard about this very subject. He quoted statistics that there are about 4 million QuickBooks Desktop (QBD) users compared to 4.5 million QuickBooks Online (QBO) users, and there were 14 improvements made to QBD in 2020. This shows a commitment by Intuit to its QuickBooks Desktop products, which provide a significant, albeit steady, share of annual income.
The fact of the matter is that QuickBooks Desktop serves more complex types of businesses that QuickBooks Online does not. Ours is a complex and unique business. We need the added functionality of QBD over QBO. I’m a big fan of QBD for our business and am pleased that it looks as though QBD is here to stay for the foreseeable future.
