The stocking, which originated in 1948, works much like a coupon redemption in the mind of retailers, but for one fixed cost. The revenue generated in hanging a stocking in their store from Thanksgiving through Christmas is a great way to track marketing and advertising dollars.
Through the years, the stocking has progressed to a national stage and is offered in many business atmospheres across the United States, Mexico and Canada.
