Badger Tag & Label Creates Movable Tag
Badger Tag & Label, Random Lake, Wis., has created a tag that moves with products through a manufacturing process and allows for multiple operations to occur while it remains attached.
The configuration's bottom layer is a sturdy, synthetic tag that can be written on or have a thermal-printed barcode on a separate label stock applied to it. It is UV stabilized, waterproof and chemical-resistant—allowing it to move through various manufacturing processes. It can be made of various paper and synthetic stock.
The tag's middle layer is a self-sealing laminate with a mylar flap. Before manufacturing begins, the mylar flap is taken off and the laminate is pressed on top of the information on the base tag. The laminate overlay offers permanent protection and fade resistance, in addition to protecting the piece if it is spray painted.
The topmost layer is a pre-mask that covers the tag throughout a spray painting process. Its back is coated with a very light adhesive, which tightly adheres it to the self-sealing laminate. When the paint is dry, the handy pull-tab makes it easy to remove the pre-mask layer.
"With the majority of manufacturing being driven by barcodes, the ability for a code to move through the process from start to the finish, means that traceability is maintained," said D.J. Jacoby, sales and marketing manager. "And, since in many cases these pieces have outdoor applications, the synthetic stock assures longevity."
Founded in 1935, Badger Tag & Label uses paper and synthetic stock to produce custom tags and labels. Finished pieces are delivered in rolls, sheets or fan-folded.
