GPO Honors University of Virginia Library
The Government Printing Office's (GPO) Acting Superintendent of Documents Ric Davis is honoring the University of Virginia Alderman Library for a century of providing Americans free and public access to the documents of our democracy.
For 100 years, Alderman Library has been a member of GPO's Federal Depository Library Program (FDLP). As a depository library, Alderman Library has received, made available, cataloged and provided assistance with government publications and information. Since 1969, the library has served as the federal regional depository for the other federal depositories in Virginia.
The University of Virginia Alderman Library celebrated its 100th anniversary with a reception and the exhibit, "An Army of 100,000,000": Celebrating 100 Years of U.S. Government Information at University of Virginia. The exhibit illustrates UVA's role in disseminating government information to the public, focusing on posters, pamphlets and publications that were part of the depository collection before, during and after World War I.
