Mail-Well University Educates Workforce to Grow Company
With students from more than 80 Mail-Well plants in 30 states, Mail-Well University, Englewood, Colo., is committed to sharpening the skills of the company's employees, in addition to reinforcing Mail-Well's primary mission of serving customers as one company with the broadest possible range of products and support services.
On the cover of the university's catalog, Paul Reilly, chairman and CEO, describes the company's vision. "Mail-Well intends to become a world-class company by developing the most knowledgeable and skilled workforce in the industry," he said.
Jim Downey, corporate director of organizational development, is dean of Mail-Well University, which was chartered in October 2000. Downey's extended faculty comprises a team of Mail-Well employees who, in addition to their regular jobs, serve as part-time trainers to teach courses in their areas of operational expertise.
Advanced courses are taught in classroom facilities at the company's Englewood, Colo., headquarters. However, the university also conducts onsite training at Mail-Well plants or at meeting facilities near the plants. According to Downey, nearly all of Mail-Well's 10,000 employees have attended at least one of the university's course.
