Make Plans for a Secure Future
If there is one theme that currently runs through most markets, it is the need for greater security. Terrorist bombs and corporate scandals are making headlines, but most companies are studying the need for secure transactions, shipping and workplace environments.
This could be a huge opportunity for distributors. Any type of security system requires documentation and some form of identification. Since most companies will not be implementing retinal scans, it will probably mean that identification cards will be a popular choice.
In less vital operations, these could be magnetic-strip swipe cards that are generally used for access to buildings and offices, either with or without an entry code. More security could mean the addition of a hologram or photo to the card. Extreme security may include the addition of a thumbprint scan. These prints are collected and included with a person's identification paperwork. The print is scanned into a system and used to match a person who wishes to gain entry.
Other situations may call for smart cards. These cards include embedded computer chips that can contain, for example, a person's entire medical history, along with directions from a physician. This same type of card could be used for auto dealers, where information specific to the vehicle can be contained in the computer chip, along with service history.
Security products—whether they are smart cards containing information vital to specific situations or tamper-evident labels that protect the contents of an overnight shipment—are in demand. Who better to supply them than distributors?
