Metalcraft Announces Ability to Print QR Codes on RFID
Metalcraft announced the ability to print QR codes on RFID and barcode labels and nameplates, adding the ability to link from the durable asset labels to product information and other web-based resources.
QR (short for Quick Response) codes are two-dimensional matrix barcodes encoding text, URLs or other data and readable by most camera phones. QR codes were first used for tracking manufacturing parts, but adoption by retailers and other marketers targeting mobile customers has grown dramatically in the last year.
"Our customers are beginning to ask about putting QR codes on Metalcraft's durable labels," said Metalcraft president Steve Doerfler. "Metalcraft believes QR codes can serve manufacturers' and resellers' needs in customer service and other applications beyond marketing, and our products are especially suited for durable performance."
Metalcraft will generate and print QR codes like other durable printed elements - using subsurface printing, curable inks and other methods to create lasting identification in almost any environment.
"There are so many business cases for adding QR codes to Metalcraft nameplates and labels," said Doerfler. "For example, we can make it easy for customers to track warranty information. Imagine connecting a customer to a manual or video detailing operating or service instructions, and always having the most current information available online."
Doerfler added that companies can likely save money and energy by replacing paper documentation with QR codes, too.
