Should You Attend The DMIA Show?
iIf you are a typical distributor, your business has branched out over the past few years into multiple product lines. You may have been so busy getting started in new areas that you may have missed some of the new things happening in the printed products arena. So, this might be a good year to attend DMIA's annual Print Solutions Conference and Expo in Chicago.
It's a good idea to stay informed on topics such as variable data, integrated products, direct mail and new security requirements for checks. In addition to reading our magazine, what the show can provide is face time with the people who produce these products every day. If you don't have time for many plant visits these days, a trade show provides you with the opportunity to meet a lot of supplier representatives in one place.
American Solutions for Business, Proforma, IBSA and other large distributors hold their own trade shows where their members can visit with vendors and learn about new products. But, where else can unaffiliated distributors find 250 vendors in every area of the printed products industry vying for their business, along with 16 educational sessions and a reception for only forty bucks (see www.dmia.org)?
The industry continues to stratify as the large distributors gain more members. However, their largest financial gains are coming as they wrest control of national business from the directs and as they enter new markets for their current client base.
Unaffiliated distributors remain a large segment of the printed products industry. The Chicago show represents an opportunity for these distributors to learn about new products and to make new vendor contacts. Stop by and visit BFL&S at Booth 136, and tell us what you think.
