Ward/Kraft, Ft. Scott, Kan., has expanded its barcode and variable data printing capabilities with wear-resistant UV varnish and laminate coating options. The company’s new online imaging equipment enables variable data such as barcodes and data based text to be laminated or UV varnished without degradation of variable data readability.
After rigorous testing, Ward/Kraft successfully brought the new production equipment online, bringing benefits to distributors including the ability to offer variable data printing on a much wider range of documents, such as outdoor and industrial applications. The new UV varnish and laminate coatings can be applied to variable data printed in black, red and green inks. Printing of all standard barcode symbologies and virtually any variable text can be done on paper stock, semi-gloss or latex substrates.
Available fanfolded—as cut sheets or on rolls—with an 8" image area and up to 10" in total document width, distributors will find a wide variety of applications in the marketplace. The enhanced wear resistance provided by the UV varnish and laminate coatings gives distributors new, economical and durable solutions for applications ranging from nursery planting yards to hospital materials handling. Turnaround times are among the fastest in the industry and vary by product configuration.
“We put a lot of research and development time into creating more durable barcode solutions for harsh environments”, said Lance Triplett, general manager, label division. “We implemented a new online imaging system to provide additional wear resistance and sustainable barcode read rates. Our distributors now have solutions to better serve customers who require durable barcode and variable data wear.”
