White House Announces Intent to Name William J. Boarman as Public Printer

President Barack Obama announced his intent to nominate William J. Boarman as the 26th Public Printer of the United States. Boarman will replace current Public Printer Bob Tapella.

Tapella said in a statement: "I am very pleased by the President's selection of Bill Boarman to be the 26th Public Printer of the United States. Bill is no stranger to the GPO, as his career took him other places he remained a strong champion and friend of the GPO, and I hold him in the highest personal regard. I look forward to working with him on a smooth transition." "On a personal note, it has been an honor to serve both President Obama and President Bush, and a privilege to lead the talented men and women of the GPO as we transformed it into the world class printing and digital information factory it is today."



Boarman is President of the Printing, Publishing & Media Workers Sector of the Communications Workers of America (CWA), and the Senior Vice President of CWA. Boarman has been associated with the printing industry, its labor relations and personnel management for over 40 years starting with his four-year apprenticeship at McArdle Printing in Washington, D.C., succeeding to Journeyman Printer (Practical Printer by Trade) in 1971. In 1974, he accepted an appointment as Printer to GPO.
