Four employees of Accent Signage Systems in Minneapolis, including the owner, were killed in a shooting at the company's offices on Thursday evening. The assailant, a former employee who had been laid off earlier in the day, took his own life after the attack.
The Huffington Post reports that the attacker was Andrew Engelinger, 36, who had been terminated from his position on the day of the shooting. Police captain Amelia Huffman said Engelinger, who had a history of mental illness, had received a letter of reprimand in the mail and came into the office armed on Thursday, where he was laid off.
Engelinger's victims include Accent Signage Systems' owner Reuven Rahamim, 61; and employees Jacob Beneke, 34; Rami Cooks, 62; and Ronald Edberg, 58. A fifth victim, Keith Basinski, 50, was a UPS driver who regularly made deliveries to the office. Two other men who were wounded remain in the hospital at this time.
"This senseless act has devastated us, but it will not destroy us," the company said in a statement yesterday. "We fully intend to honor the memories of our colleagues and friends by continuing to grow the company they helped build through their hard work and dedication."
