Seize the Day
Seize the Day
"The measure of success is not whether you have a tough problem to deal
with, but whether it is the same problem you had last year."
John Foster Dulles - Secretary of State
under President Dwight D. Eisenhower, 1953 - 1959.
There is no better time than now to evaluate your business, both its successes and its failures. Taking a peek back and examining the tough problems of the past and seeing if these issues have been resolved or still remain, is a crucial task for anyone in a leadership role. If resolution and growth have been achieved, then there is a level of success that can be measured. If not, then perhaps today is the day to sit down and examine the industry and how your business has been impacted by today's market trends. Once the data is gathered a proactive approach can be taken in developing new strategies of teamwork, service, product offering, innovation and maybe even provide insight that will empower you to take a few calculated risks and dive into new arenas of the printed products world.
This year's State of the Industry explores trends from the 1980s through today to help our readership identify these areas of growth and decline. Direct from BFL&S's statistics, sales of forms, labels and tags continue to decline, collectively down nearly 10 percent from 2004. Areas
of growth are in plastic and promotional products, as well as direct mail. From talking with many industry professionals, this is a wave expected to continue through 2006 and beyond. So seize the day, take a look at those dusty old skeletons that have taken up residence in your business, evaluate them and ask yourself, "Am I still dealing with last years problems?"
