Sales Gold
April 1, 2009

The economy got you down? How about your sales? Tune out the naysayers for just a minute and realize the plentiful solutions waiting to be had. Yes, the struggling economy has added a different competitive dynamic to the selling game, but everyone also knows that pessimism is the least productive—and least profitable—of attitudes.

Finding Your Pulse
January 1, 2009

At the end of every year, we expect retail merchants to slash prices. We don’t, however, expect employers to slash jobs in record-breaking numbers. Unfortunately, the recession has ushered in layoffs totaling 2.59 million—with even more expected to follow in the coming months. But, as the majority of industries reduced payrolls effective January 1, the healthcare market managed to escape such a fate, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

BIG in Baltimore
September 1, 2008

A little change never hurt anyone. With that in mind, this year’s big show promises a change of pace, a change of scenery and a change in demand. The newly revamped PSDA (formerly DMIA) will host its annual Print Solutions Conference and Exposition on Oct. 23-25 at the Baltimore Convention Center, Baltimore. This year’s featured general session keynote speaker will be Charlie Pesko, founder and president of InfoTrends, a leading market research and consulting firm in the digital imaging and document solutions industries. Technological advances and refined marketing strategies are just some of the issues gaining momentum in a slowing economy. To encourage print

Five Great Reasons to Love Tax Forms
July 1, 2008

Would you rather undergo a root canal without anaesthesia than sell tax forms? If you answered “yes,” you’re missing out on one of the best perks of being a distributor—the opportunity to sell tax form products to every single customer and prospect you encounter throughout your career. Not only is there an undisputed marketplace need, but suppliers such as Jim Magdaleno, president, TFP Data Systems, Oxnard, Calif.; Teresa Budzynski and Paul Willard, sales reps for Broker Forms, Grand Rapids, Mich.; and Gretchen Walker, marketing manager, The DFS Group, Townsend, Mass., witness tax forms consistently generating profits for distributors who bother to take a little

Get the Show on the Road
October 1, 2006

Industry veterans will probably remember the names Paul Mendelson, Horace Klafter and Art Shapiro, and those of their respective companies: American Loose Leaf Binder Company, Normandy Label and OCR Tax Systems. What they may not know, is these men were the creative geniuses and logistical wizards responsible for establishing and running the forms distributor’s road shows more than 30 years ago. The idea was hatched in a St. Louis airport restaurant when Mendelson discussed with Klafter a more effective way of reaching out to distributors and educating them about various product lines. Six months later, fliers were printed, mailings were sent to distributors and sixteen

It’s Show Time!
September 1, 2006

DMIA’s annual Print Solutions conference and exposition will be held Oct. 3-5 at the Donald E. Stephens Convention Center in Rosemont, Ill. The conference will provide three days of educational sessions, including a presentation by this year’s keynote speaker, Newt Gingrich, former Speaker of the House and co-author of “Contract with America.” Join Gingrich as he analyzes the current political climate in Washington, DC, and educates attendees on effective leadership. This year’s conference will feature equipment demonstrations, offering distributors better insight into how various applications are produced. In addition, exchange centers will be located on the show floor with more than 34 hours of

Revised CMS-1500 Form Creates Selling Opportunities
August 15, 2006

Headquartered in Oxnard, Calif., TFP Data Systems was instrumental in assisting the National Uniform Claim Committee in revising the CMS-1500 billing form, which must be submitted by “non-institutions”—such as private physicians’ offices, chiropractors, physical therapists, ambulance services, dentists and nursing homes—when submitting claims. “This is the biggest opportunity in CMS forms since the December 1990 revision of the 1500,” said Jim Magdaleno, sales and marketing rep. “TFP Data Systems is the first manufacturer to have the new CMS-1500 ready for shipment.” He noted that more than 20 billion health insurance claims will be submitted and processed this year. One of the major

Don’t Forget the Tax Man
July 1, 2006

Filling out tax forms is a major drag; selling them is anything but. While technology has brought about the demise of many form products and left others mortally wounded and gasping for air, tax forms remain extremely lucrative, in-demand products. Consider the fact that a trip to the local post office, library or state building to obtain tax forms simply won’t cut it for most enterprises, given their varied and voluminous needs. “This might be an option for very small companies with no more than three employees, but, local government offices have limited quantities and are not designed for large give-aways,” explained Jim Magdaleno,

Explore New Frontiers in Health-Care
January 1, 2005

Doors open wide for independent distributors probing this industry. To say that there have been a few changes within the independent channel in relation to the health-care industry would be a bit of an understatement. It is now well-known that in October of last year, American Solutions for Business, Glenwood, Minn., and International Business Solutions Alliance (IBSA), Bowling Green, Ky., pulled off a major coup by snagging Novation—the largest-volume group purchasing organization (GPO) in the health-care field. (Novation formerly contracted with major direct Moore Wallace, owned by RR Donnelley, Chicago, Ill.) This spells opportunity for manufacturers and independents affiliated with American Solutions for
