Although electronic mail solutions may be a path distributors want to consider, it is one of direct mail sales' adverse affects, along with postal hikes and the economy—two of the biggest issues plaguing direct mail this past year.
Because of postal and economic obstacles, Wiedenmann said the sale of direct mail remained relatively consistent as opposed to going up this past year. However, he noted that the increased rate provided Merrill with "opportunities to offer cost-saving and alternative solutions to individual clients that help control overall program costs."
